A phenomenon known as ALWC (Accelerated Low Water Corrosion) also known as Accelerated Corrosion has been identified as a problem by a significant number of harbour and port operators worldwide. Corrosion rates of up to 3mm/year have been observed and, if not dealt with promptly can cause millions of dollars’ worth of damage to a port or harbour’s infrastructure.
The installation of cathodic protection (CP) is a proven solution to halt the corrosion damage caused by ALWC and CP can be installed as a new build or as a retrofit.
Many operators have little knowledge of this problem. Bad advice and poor design, in many instances, have resulted in expensive remediation programs being undertaken, only to see the problem re-occurring.
However, ISES has the experience to provide our Clients with a complete turnkey approach, and is able to provide design, supply, installation, commissioning and maintenance capability for the successful mitigation of ALWC and corrosion in general on immersed tubular and sheet wall steel piling systems.
